Clemson Entomology announces fall pest trainings

The Clemson University Entomology Department has two trainings scheduled this fall to help pest management and termite professionals learn the latest in critter controls.

The first training is the 6^thAnnual Fall Forum for Pest Management Professionals. Slated for Oct. 30 in Clemson, this one-day educational program will offer exhibits and educational sessions on:

• How treatments work,
• Understanding molds and fungi in crawl spaces,
• Treating live trees for Formosan termites,
• Fundamentals of mosquito control, and
• The Top 10 violations and how to avoid them.

Five South Carolina recertification credits will be offered — three credits in Category 7, one in Category 3 and one in Category 8.

This forum will be held at the Best Western Plus University Inn and Conference Center, 1310 Tiger Boulevard, Clemson, S.C. 29631. Cost is $150 for pest management professionals who register by Oct. 24. Cost is $175 for those who register after Oct. 24. Cost for exhibitors is $250 and includes a tabletop display. Clemson entomologists also will provide a Master Termite Technician Program Nov. 6-7 at the Clemson Sandhill Research and Education Center’s Lakehouse, 900 Clemson Road, Columbia, S.C. This program is designed to provide practical training for experienced technicians and to help them improve the quality of termite treatments.

In addition to learning material in a classroom, students also will conduct field work at a house foundation featuring a variety of construction elements. Students will learn how to treat using a variety of techniques.

After successful completion of a hands-on and written test, technicians are recognized as Master Termite Technicians. They will be awarded a certificate and patches for their uniforms to signify their achievement.

Cost is $275. Graduates of the two-day program receive five recertification credits.

Criterion for the school is based on technicians’ experience and proven skill. Enrollment is limited and participants are encouraged to sign up early.
