William ‘Bill’ Thomas Linton III of Knoxville named to Clemson Alumni Association board

CLEMSON, South Carolina — The Clemson Alumni Association has named William “Bill” Thomas Linton III of Knoxville to its board of directors. His term will begin July 1.

Linton, a fourth-generation Clemson University graduate, received a degree in industrial management in 1983. He then earned his MBA from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1989. He passed on the tradition to his son, William, who also graduated from Clemson in 2018.

Before retiring, Linton worked as a consumer packaged goods marketing executive for Bush Brothers & Co. and Proctor & Gamble. He also served as an active duty Army officer in the 82nd Airborne Division and 7th Special Forces Group.

As a student at Clemson, Linton was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and ROTC. He was also student body vice president and served on student Senate.

Linton has given back to Clemson and the community as the treasurer of the Smoky Mountain Clemson Club, serving as a children’s Sunday school teacher and by coaching soccer and swimming.

The alumni board has 22 members and is the governing body for the Clemson Alumni Association. Primary responsibilities of the board include general oversight of the programs and initiatives of the association, financial audit and review, the establishment of governing policies and strategic planning.
