The Brooks Center for the Performing Arts and Clemson University Orchestras, in partnership with Trudel Music Studio, the City of Clemson Arts Center and Patrick Square, invite families to Symphony in the Square: A Family Music Festival on Saturday, November 7, at the Village Green at Patrick Square in Clemson. The free outdoor event will feature Sergei Prokofiev’s beloved orchestral work Peter and the Wolf, performed by the Clemson University Symphony Orchestra.

Clemson University Provost Cole Smith will join the orchestra as special guest narrator, guiding the audience through the classic folk tale as the orchestra brings its memorable characters to life through music. Each character is represented by a distinctive musical theme that highlights a different orchestral instrument. The piece is an engaging introduction to orchestral writing for audiences of all ages.

“We hope to see young listeners and those who are young at heart at Symphony in the Square,” said Catherine Hughes, Executive Director of the Brooks Center. “This event will be an opportunity to showcase what the University and the city have to offer in the performing arts. Collaborating across our community has enabled us to create a morning of hands-on activities and exciting performances in a casual, welcoming atmosphere. We are very grateful to Provost Smith for accepting the role of celebrity narrator.”

Pre-concert activities, presented by the City of Clemson Arts Center and Trudel Music Studio, begin at 10 a.m. and will include animal mask-making, an instrument petting zoo and a Kindermusik session.

  • 10 a.m. Animal mask-making and instrument petting zoo
