Editor’s note: This is the latest installment of the “Student Affairs Talk” podcast for 2019-20. Communications Director for Student Affairs Philip Sikes visits with various leaders from the staff and student communities. Our next guest in the summer 2020 series is John Gressette, a senior from Columbia, South Carolina.
John Gressette applied to other universities, but when it came down to it, he just couldn’t imagine being anywhere else other than Clemson. After all, his family legacy is strong with the Upstate institution. His grandfather, Lawrence Gressette, was a longtime member and former chairperson of the Clemson University Board of Trustees. Gressette Hall, formerly known as Core Campus A, was named in his grandfather’s memory last spring.
Gressette has carved out his own legacy at Clemson, which includes involvement with both the Student Alumni Council and most notably the Interfraternity Council (IFC). He served previously as IFC’s vice president for risk management and currently is the organization’s president, overseeing the governing body’s efforts on behalf of all affiliated fraternity chapters at Clemson.
In the podcast, he discussed his grandfather’s impact, following in the footsteps of two older brothers at Clemson, how IFC has been an integral part of his growth and college experience and much more.
