Marketing student promotional pitch collaboration

Share:

Students from Professor Michele Cauley’s MKT4230 Promotional Strategy classes aided two local organizations through marketing collaborations this past Spring semester. Teams developed promotional pitches to present to clients from Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and South Carolina Botanical Garden (SCBG) Treehouse Project to meet critical business, fundraising and marketing objectives for each organization.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Board of Directors and Exec Director, Julie Viodotto

Executive director for OLLI, Julie Vidotto with her board members and executive director, Shannon Barrett (SCBG) with donors Joe and Cathy Turner and Clemson development team members, Margaret Owens and Brian O’Rourke assessed the team presentations and selected the top three teams from each class based on their adherence to the project guidelines. Winning team members earned extra credit on their final exam, and VP of development and alumni relations, Brian O’Rourke, gave a $1000 gift to the Dept of Marketing’s excellence fund to help fund future donor and client collaborations like this one since he felt they provided such value.

Our Clemson students brought such professionalism, innovation and excitement to our project. This type of hands-on approach is what makes our University special and we are grateful to have been part of this experience.” – Shannon Barrett, Executive Director of SC Botanical Gardens

Students were able to apply classroom learnings with real-world application when developing the promotional strategies which included brand positioning, SWOT analyses, media and target audience specifications and sample content.

“This terrific intergenerational experience was an important part of our Institute’s work to begin re-engaging our members after two difficult years.  Not only did the OLLI volunteer leadership learn more about current marketing tools, the students had to adjust their perspectives to reach an older adult audience.” – Julie Vidotto, Executive Director for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The Department of Marketing is so grateful to these generous partners who dedicated their time to providing students with this opportunity for a hands-on learning experience. If you are interested in a student project collaboration, please email us at marketingnews@clemson.edu.
