Marketing Student Promotional Pitch Collaboration

Students from Professor Michele Cauley’s MKT4230 Promotional Strategy classes aided two local organizations through marketing collaborations this past Spring semester. Teams developed promotional pitches to present to clients from Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and South Carolina Botanical Garden (SCBG) Treehouse Project to meet critical business, fundraising and marketing objectives for each organization.

Executive director for OLLI, Julie Vidotto with her board members and executive director, Shannon Barrett (SCBG) with donors Joe and Cathy Turner and Clemson development team members, Margaret Owens and Brian O’Rourke assessed the team presentations and selected the top three teams from each class based on their adherence to the project guidelines. Winning team members earned extra credit on their final exam, and VP of development and alumni relations, Brian O’Rourke, gave a $1000 gift to the Dept of Marketing’s excellence fund to help fund future donor and client collaborations like this one since he felt they provided such value.

Students were able to apply classroom learnings with real-world application when developing the promotional strategies which included brand positioning, SWOT analyses, media and target audience specifications and sample content.
