Due to anticipated hazardous conditions from forecasted winter weather, all events, with the exception of athletic events, on Clemson University’s main campus for Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1 are canceled. Additionally, the University will conduct e-learning activities on Monday, Feb. 2.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for much of South Carolina beginning at 4 p.m. today through 7 a.m. Sunday. An Extreme Cold Watch has been issued for much of the state as well for Saturday and Sunday. Significant snowfall combined with subfreezing temperatures will quickly stick to roads, and gusty winds will reduce visibility, resulting in hazardous driving conditions. Frigid temperatures and wind chills well below freezing are also expected.

Clemson University’s top priority continues to be the safety of its students, faculty and staff. Consider the following during hazardous conditions and cold temperatures:
- Drive only if it is absolutely necessary. If you must drive, travel in the day, don’t travel alone and keep others informed of your schedule. Decrease your speed and leave plenty of room to stop the vehicle.
- Limit time outside. If you must go outside, dress in layers of warm clothing. Wear a hat, mittens, a scarf and waterproof, insulated boots.
- Keep dry. Change wet clothing frequently to prevent a loss of body heat. Wet clothing loses all of its insulating value and transmits heat rapidly.
- Watch for signs of frostbite, such as loss of feeling and white or pale appearance in extremities (finger, toes, ear lobes, the tip of your nose.)
