Clemson is celebrating its 150+ postdoctoral and early professional scholars as part of National Postdoc Appreciation Week. Most of Clemson’s postdocs are University employees who have earned a PhD and are conducting mentored research for the University, and some have teaching roles, as well.
Postdoc Appreciation Week celebrates their contributions while connecting scholars with the people, programs and resources that can support what comes next in their careers.

While postdocs have supported research on campus for decades, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs’ work expanded two years ago under a new name: Postdoctoral and Early Professional Scholars, or PEPS, housed in the Graduate School. Throughout the year, PEPS creates opportunities for postdocs to meet one another and share their work. Annual gatherings bring scholars and their families together, while the PEPS Research Symposium gives scholars a platform to present their research and participate in a poster competition.
Professional and personal development opportunities available to PEPS scholars include GRAD 360°, Accelerate to Industry (A2i) and more.
Earlier this year, PEPS established a 14-member advisory board. The board includes postdoctoral scholars as well as faculty and staff from various colleges. The group helps identify the needs of postdoctoral and early professional scholars and how to address them. Members also help plan activities that strengthen professional development, build community and contribute to a stronger experience for postdocs and early professional scholars at Clemson.
