Tyler R. Saas named associate vice president for budget, financial planning and analytics

Nov. 11, Tyler Saas becomes Clemson’s new associate vice president (AVP) for budget, financial planning, and analytics.

Effective Nov. 11, Tyler R. Saas will assume the position of associate vice president (AVP) for budget, financial planning and analytics. This position combines the previous director of financial planning and analytics and budget director positions to better align Clemson’s strategic financial planning and enterprise budget functions. Saas will report to Chief Financial Officer Steve Crump and will support strategic business decisions for the University. He will be charged with ensuring the integrity, accuracy, compliance and feasibility of the total annual operating budget while providing enterprise-level budgeting, long-term planning, forecasting and data analysis. In addition, Saas will strategically leverage opportunities to better utilize resources and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Clemson’s financial operations.

Saas’ strong higher education background in finance, accounting, business intelligence systems, strategy consulting, and project management propelled him to the top of the more than 100 highly qualified applicants during Clemson’s national search. He brings to Clemson a broad understanding of how higher education institutions function, private sector best practices, and the interrelatedness between functional areas, specifically between accounting, budgeting and cash flow forecasting.

In his roles at Columbia University and Deloitte Consulting, Saas balanced strategy, modeling, technology, and project management competencies—all while managing diverse teams on multiple, simultaneous projects, and building expertise across a wide variety of functional disciplines (e.g., Finance, Budget, Accounting, Robotics, Research Administration).

Most recently, Saas served Deloitte Consulting as its manager, higher education, strategy & analytics, and from this position, Saas gained invaluable strategic insights into the financial operations of private and public 4-year institutions of higher education. Prior to Deloitte Consulting, Saas was the director of global treasury operations for Columbia University where he oversaw the university’s global cash positions, including 150+ domestic and 85international bank accounts across 20+ countries supporting 17 different schools and departments.

Saas brings an array of certifications to Clemson, including Certified Public Accountant (New York), Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Treasury Professional, Not-for-Profit Certificates 1 and 2, AICPA and a Workday Financials Certification. As it relates to Clemson’s financials platform, Saas has significant PeopleSoft experience.

Saas will be relocating from his residence in Manchester, N.H. He is the partner of Dr. Darbi Roberts who serves as the executive director of International Student Services at Southern New Hampshire University. Both love pets, are avid hikers and former Ironman triathletes.
