A group of students from Clemson University’s independent TEDx organization have come together to organize a series of public speaking engagements on Saturday, April 2. Students, faculty, staff and community members are scheduled to take part in this year’s event — “Pursuit of Progress” — held from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Strom Thurmond Institute auditorium.
“We have amazing faculty, staff, students and community members who have agreed to speak and we believe it’s going to be a great event,” said Clare Mazzeo, a junior biological sciences major and co-organizer of TEDxClemsonU. “Each speaker will have about 10-12 minutes to present various topics within a particular theme of progress. Hopefully, participants will be inspired by these talks and different perspectives.”
Saturday will mark the first time in a few years a TEDx event has been held on Clemson’s campus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first session of speakers will begin at 9:30 a.m. Each session will include multiple live presentations, as well as recorded TED talks.
“As we think about moving the University forward post-COVID, it fits with our overall event theme of progress,” added Mazzeo, who said the idea for this year’s TEDx event emerged from the innovation and technology committee she was part of in Undergraduate Student Senate. “We have topics ranging from tigers in wildlife to invasive species to human trafficking and much more — there’s something for everyone.
“This is truly an event put on by the people of Clemson, for the people of Clemson.”
Tickets are $10 and includes lunch and admittance to all sessions. View the event page to order tickets.
