Students,
As we close another academic year, I want to offer heartfelt congratulations to the approximately 5,000 students earning doctoral, bachelor’s and master’s degrees this week. Commencement is one of the defining memories of the college experience, and we look forward to honoring each of you as you cross the stage in Littlejohn Coliseum in front of family, friends and loved ones.
This graduating class is distinctive in many ways. Our graduates come from all 46 counties in South Carolina. Thirteen percent identify as first-generation college graduates, and 12 percent began their journeys in the Bridge to Clemson program. Those numbers remind us there is no single path to achievement. Every student’s story is different, and each one strengthens Clemson.
That spirit was on full display recently during the Spring Quarterly Meeting of the Board of Trustees. In the Student Affairs Committee, six students representing a range of academic disciplines took part in a panel discussion. They were outstanding — academic scholars, organizational leaders, service-minded and driven by Clemson’s values. Last week, we also celebrated Student Affairs student award recipients and heard an uplifting message from Provost Cole Smith.
Today, I look forward to joining Interim President Bob Jones, Provost Smith and other leaders at the University Spring Awards Program as we recognize students, faculty and staff whose impact has helped shape this University. Tomorrow, we will celebrate our graduating service members and veterans by presenting red, white and blue cords to wear with their regalia. We take immense pride in their service to our country and in all they have contributed to the Clemson community.
As summer begins, some of you will continue your studies in summer classes. Others will complete internships, study abroad, enroll in graduate or professional school, or begin careers in the workplace. Whatever comes next, I wish you success and fulfillment. Thank you for what you have brought to Clemson this year. I can’t wait to do it all again in August as we begin the 2026-27 academic year.
Go Tigers!
Doug Hallenbeck, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
