CLEMSON, S.C. — Spring has sprung and after being cooped up all winter, many South Carolina residents are planning to spruce up their gardens.
To help residents decide what plants to plant, the South Carolina Botanical Garden is holding its annual spring plant sale online, beginning April 5 for Friends of the Garden and from April 12-23 for the public. Information about the online sale can be found at https://www.clemson.edu/public/scbg/plant-sale/faq.html. Friends of the Garden memberships also are available at https://iamatiger.clemson.edu/giving/scbg.
Orders placed online can be picked up contact-free in the nursery section of the Botanical Garden, 154 Lacecap Loop off Perimeter Road in Clemson.
“We want to keep everyone safe from COVID-19,” Shealy said. “The only way people can buy plants is to order from the website and then schedule a contact-free curbside pickup.”
The spring plant sale includes native and exotic ornamental shrubs, small and large trees, hard-to-find perennials, colorful spring annuals, fruit trees and shrubs, a selection of interesting Chihuahuan Desert plants and a variety of garden vegetables. The Spring 2021 Plant Sale is available at https://www.clemson.edu/public/scbg/plant-sale/catalogonline.pdf.
Once gardens and lawns are spruced up with plants bought during the sale, homeowners can visit the Clemson Extension Home and Garden Information Center website, www.clemson.edu/hgic, for information to keep plants alive and well throughout the season.
Plant sales are major fundraising events for the Garden and are held during the spring and fall. All profits support Garden operations and enhancements. For information, contact Misty Shealy, nursery and greenhouse manager, at 864-656-2458 or scbgnursery@clemson.edu.
