He was one of three dogs being fostered by Clemson animal and veterinary science majors Marena Fleming, Grace White, and Dana Galvin to be service dogs for veterans. The students committed to spending a year socializing and training the dogs for Battle Buddies, a nonprofit based out of Simpsonville founded with the mission to help veterans regain their physical and emotional independence by gifting them with highly trained service dogs worth more than $7,000 each. A set of guidelines and procedures concerning Clemson University service and assistance animals and service animals in training is now available in the University’s policy library. Students and employees can refer to the Guidelines and Operating Procedures for Service Animals in Training and Service/Assistance Animals as a complementary resource for the University’s Service and Assistance Animals for Individuals with Disabilities, Service Animals in Training Policy.

The guidelines include information about definitions, access, procedures, rights and responsibilities of animal handlers and trainers, as well as general guidance and contacts.
