SC Botanical Garden Fall Plant Sale online this year

CLEMSON – For the first time ever, the South Carolina Botanical Garden is holding its fall plant sale completely online this year.

Misty Shealy, nursery manager, said orders can be placed Sept. 7-25 online.

“We want to keep everyone safe from COVID-19,” Shealy said. “The only way people can buy plants this year is to order from the website and then schedule a contact-free curbside pickup.”

Links to the online plant sale catalog are available on the Plant Sale webpage at the Botanical Garden’s website, https://www.clemson.edu/public/scbg/. A link to the online store will be posted on the website and the Garden’s Facebook page, @southcarolinabotanicalgarden, prior to the sale.

Plants available for sale this year include: trees, shrubs, fruits and berries, grasses, bog plants, perennials, ferns, tropical plants and orchids. Many native plants and landscape plants will be available for purchase.

“Our semi-annual plant sales each fall and spring are a major source of revenue for the South Carolina Botanical Garden,” Shealy said. “Proceeds are used for special projects that would not be possible without income generated by the plant sales.”

All orders must be placed online only. Customer will get an email confirmation soon after their order is placed. Once orders are ready, customers will get another email notifying them their order is ready for pickup. Customers will schedule a pickup time online.

To pick up orders, customers will drive to the Botanical Garden nursery complex, 154 Lacecap Loop, Clemson, S.C., for contact-free pickup. Customers are asked to remain in their vehicles and wait for staff to come verify their order. All garden buildings, nursery complex and restrooms will remain closed during the curbside pick-up.

Customers who can’t make their scheduled pickup times are asked to notify the garden at least 24 hours in advance via email at scbgnursery@clemson.edu.

All plant sales are final. No refunds, returns or exchanges are allowed. Anyone who has concerns is asked to notify the garden staff at pickup. Basic information on how to care for your plants after purchase is available from the Clemson Home and Garden Information Center.

Fall annuals will be available for pre-order in the online store. These orders will be ready for pick up the second week of October. Everyone ordering fall annuals will receive an email when their order is ready for pickup.

The South Carolina Botanical Garden needs friends and volunteers to help the 295-acre garden grow. Benefits of being a Friend of the Garden include advance entry into the fall and spring plant sales, a 10% discount in the garden gift shop, invitations to members-only special events, The Garden’s Gate newsletter, monthly Friends e-mail updates on garden happenings and events, discounts on garden education programs and admission to nearly 300 other gardens in the United States as part of the AHS Reciprocal Program. There are numerous opportunities for volunteers at the Garden. Volunteer hours are flexible and dependent on areas of interest. Benefits of becoming a Garden volunteer include a 10% discount at the plant sales after completing 75 hours of volunteer service. Because of COVID-19, the volunteer program has been suspended. Shealy encourages anyone interested in becoming a volunteer to check back for an application.
