Flexographic Technical Association signs on as inaugural sponsor of Clemson’s VR print training platform

Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), the premiere destination for flexographic resources, has signed on as the inaugural sponsor for Clemson University’s new virtual print training platform developed by the Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics. The Sonoco Institute’s new virtual print platform features a highly immersive and engaging print lab where users can operate a press and utilize all of the tools and measurement devices found in a traditional pressroom.

Clemson scientists designing robots to fill agricultural labor gap

The agricultural workforce is shrinking and some Clemson University researchers believe robots may help provide a means to protect America’s food and fiber industries. A group of them studying the use of robots in agriculture recently met with researchers from other universities and representatives from Clearpath Robotics to learn about programs and hardware that are available to equip robots to work in agricultural crops.

Clemson faculty member coauthors comprehensive guide to STEAM education

A faculty member in Clemson’s College of Education has coauthored a new book, “An Educator’s Guide to STEAM: Engaging Students Using Real-World Problems.” The book aims to help readers better understand the STEAM framework in education, which is an educational approach that incorporates science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics.

Igor Luzinov awarded Kentwool Distinguished Professorship in Natural Fibers

Igor Luzinov of Clemson University Monday became the first recipient of the Kentwool Distinguished Professorship in Natural Fibers, an honor named for a 176-year-old textile company that remains committed to innovation and excellence in natural fibers, specifically wool. A $250,000 gift from Kentwool in 2009 enabled Clemson to receive a matching gift from the lottery-funded SmartState program creating the endowment that made the professorship possible. Kentwool is headquartered in downtown Greenville, South Carolina, and has a 135,000-square-foot yarn production plant in Pickens County.

Her experience studying real-world examples of schools and teachers in crisis allows her to shed light on what makes a resilient school that can provide equitable and safe education amid economic or social disruption.

Graduate students work to transform eight South Carolina communities

While it may seem challenging to tackle the breadth of issues caused by population growth, gentrification and commercialization, students at Clemson are seeking solutions through a new one-of-a-kind partnership. Throughout the semester, nine students have been traveling across the state to assess eight mayors’ communities, which includes Travelers Rest, Estill, Orangeburg, Rock Hill, Hartsville, Patrick, West Pelzer and Hardeeville.

Clemson creates Center for Recruitment and Retention of Diverse Educators

Clemson’s College of Education has been awarded funds to create the Center for the Recruitment and Retention of Diverse Educators, which will research, design and implement the best strategies for minority teacher recruitment and retention. The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education recently approved plans for the center, which will initially focus its efforts in Spartanburg, Cherokee, Orangeburg and Charleston.

Students to learn robotics through virtual reality with new Clemson program

The same technology that adds a sense of realism to video games will soon help teach students across the country about robotics in advanced manufacturing, starting in Greenville. Virtual reality is the centerpiece of a new program, TIME for Robotics, that will be created at the Clemson University Center for Workforce Development.

Students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) unveiled their newest Deep Orange concept vehicle, sponsored by Honda R&D Americas Inc. (HRA). After two years, the 19-student team unveiled the high-performance, fuel-efficient motorsports prototype at the ALL-IN Auto Rally Ride & Drive event at Clemson University Saturday, Oct. 6.
