This spring, the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business celebrated the reopening of the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room.

The event began with remarks by Dean York and was followed by Michael Howley, the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room Director. Since joining the College earlier this semester, Howley has brought his experience from Wall Street to work on increasing the educational offerings in the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room.

Students attended the ceremony to celebrate the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room reopening.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room, where we can enhance the student experience by offering hands-on Bloomberg and financial markets training,” Howley says. “These initiatives will not only equip students with valuable skills but also enhance their knowledge, thereby positioning them for long-term success in their careers”

Making a difference

The Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room is a teaching and research hub that was built to mirror a Wall Street office. Within the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room, students gain trading experience using technology like Bloomberg terminals, which have real-time and historical data on equities, fixed income and derivative securities and data on foreign exchange markets.

Howley teaches students in his role as director of the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room.

Four years ago, Melvin and Dollie Younts gave a generous gift that has enabled students to gain real-world experience that contributes to their market readiness upon graduation. Part of the gift also provides support for a director to oversee experiential learning and career development in the finance sector for students.

Brandon Lockhart, associate chair of the Department of Finance, looks forward to seeing how the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room will continue to grow. “The “reopening” is our first opportunity to share our new strategic plan for the Melvin and Dollie Younts Trading Room with the Clemson University community. We have reimagined how to organize our activities for full utilization of the resource to enhance the student experience and career outcomes.”
