Zerpa grew up in Valencia, Venezuela. After earning his degree in Veterinary Medicine at the School of Veterinary Sciences at the Central University of Venezuela, he spent a couple of years in mixed practice before enrolling in the Magister Scientarum program at his alma mater to pursue a master’s degree in veterinary Pathology, followed by a Ph.D. in Veterinary Pharmacology at the Royal Veterinary College at the University of London, UK. Zerpa said he was drawn to the opportunity to become a founding faculty member at the PCVM because of the unique and extraordinary opportunity it presented.
“This strongly connects with my passion for veterinary education,” said Zerpa. “I was also drawn to Clemson University’s commitment to excellence, integrity and respect within a community that values diverse perspectives and collaboration. Clemson’s dedication to advancing veterinary medicine in South Carolina and preparing future generations of veterinarians inspired me to take part in this meaningful journey.”
Zerpa says with his extensive experience teaching across diverse veterinary curricula, he’s eager to contribute to the development of a dynamic and forward-thinking academic program at the PCVM.
“My goal is to foster a collaborative learning environment where faculty and students work together to achieve academic excellence. By integrating evidence-based medicine and encouraging active research engagement, I aim to enrich the educational experience and support Clemson University’s strategic plan.”
Zerpa is a passionate educator in veterinary medicine who is committed to supporting students as the future generation of veterinarians. He is honored and excited to contribute to establishing South Carolina’s first college of veterinary medicine.
“I am excited to guide students through the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine curriculum, fostering an enriching and memorable learning experience. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging academic environment that empowers students to grow both professionally and personally, ultimately preparing them to make a meaningful impact in the field of veterinary medicine.”
In his spare time, Zerpa enjoys time with his family exploring the great outdoors!
“Family is at the center of everything I do. I truly enjoy spending time with my wife, daughter and son, especially when we are outdoors, whether hiking or spending a day at the beach. I also find great joy in birdwatching and dancing to Latin music, especially Salsa and Merengue, which bring energy and happiness to my life outside of academia.”
