Meet a Tiger: Danny Weathers

This Tiger thought Clemson was a magical place as early as age 6 when his parents brought him to a football game during Homecoming weekend. He found his way back as a student and again as a faculty member.  As the 2019-2020 Faculty Senate president, he hopes to implement changes and policies that benefit faculty and make a positive impact on the university that he loves.

Meet Danny Weathers.

Years at Clemson: Nine

What I do at Clemson: I’m a professor in the marketing department. I mainly teach quantitative courses: Marketing Research and Marketing Metrics for undergraduates and Multivariate Data Analysis for graduate students. I also lead a study abroad program in Europe for International Marketing. My research focuses on consumer price judgments and measurement/methods issues, but I enjoy researching any marketing-related topic that catches my attention. My role on Faculty Senate requires me to attend many meetings around campus. I’ve learned a lot about how the University operates.

What I love about Clemson: I love the work Clemson faculty members do. Aside from great teaching, our faculty members do so much interesting and important research in a variety of fields. Many are nationally- and internationally-known experts. That these people work in rural, small-town South Carolina, and I get to call them my colleagues, is pretty amazing. I also love the location. Clemson is close to mountains, great hiking, waterfalls and beautiful lakes. What’s not to like? And I love Clemson sports, of course!

My defining moment at Clemson: For me, it occurred when my parents brought me to Clemson’s 1978 homecoming football game. It seemed like a magical place to a six-year-old. I spent the next 12 years hoping to get to Clemson as a student (I graduated with a math degree in 1994), and then spent 18 years hoping to get back as an employee.

Accomplishment I’m most proud of: My wife and I adopted our daughter, Mollie Elisabeth, in January. Adoption can be challenging, but we persevered and it worked out for us. She is a happy, healthy two-month-old, and we’re exhausted, but I would not trade it for anything.

Where I see myself in five years: Hopefully still here at Clemson teaching and researching, but in a new College of Business building.

Last thing I watched on TV: I have not watched much TV recently because diaper changes and feedings take a lot of time. However, I try to make time for Jeopardy every night. (I’ve tried out for Jeopardy five or six times—no luck yet!) I’m also fascinated by Forged in Fire and Treehouse Masters.

Guilty pleasure: I love old-school rappers: Run DMC, LL Cool J, Dana Dane and Doug E Fresh. I sing along to the songs, much to my wife’s chagrin.

One thing most people don’t know about me: I’m a pretty good juggler – clubs, balls, rings and torches – anything I can throw.
