Once a Tiger, always a Tiger.
At age 6, she was a tiger for Halloween. It might have been a precursor of the future. As a student, this Tiger followed her best friend to Clemson and has worked at the university for nearly three decades. Through her work, she connects departments with best practices.
Meet Cathy Howe.
Title: Director of internal audit
Years at Clemson: 29
What I do at Clemson: I manage an audit team who validates data and controls for the entire main campus and statewide locations. I enjoy interacting with all levels of employees, even up to President Clements.
What I love about Clemson: The staff and faculty. Many employees make Clemson a career (as I have) and genuinely want the best for everyone. I have made some good, lifelong friends here at Clemson.
My defining moment at Clemson: My defining moment was in 2006, when Bill Hendrix, then chairman of the board of trustees, selected me as director of internal audit and assured me I had full support of the board. That promise continues even today.
Accomplishment I’m most proud of: Serving on mission trips and assisting with construction in various communities.
Where I see myself in five years: Lounging on our pontoon boat on Lake Greenwood with my husband, Douglas.
Last thing I watched on TV: American Ninja Warrior. I like watching average people do what seems impossible.
Guilty pleasure: Honey buns and chocolate milk
One thing most people don’t know about me: I was once bitten by a lion. On a recent South African safari, I was petting a very playful lion cub and he latched onto my leg. There was no injury.
