This Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, the Clemson University Police Department (CUPD) will join forces with Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) South Carolina for “Saturation Saturday,” a powerful state and nationwide initiative to fight impaired driving ahead of Labor Day weekend.
In conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, this coordinated effort aims to save lives by intensifying impaired driving enforcement during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
CUPD will increase impaired-driving traffic safety enforcement efforts this Saturday, including conducting high-visibility saturation patrols, to save lives and prevent injuries. CUPD joins more than a dozen police departments across South Carolina participating in this effort to protect our community against impaired driving.
“The Clemson University Police Department takes DUI enforcement very seriously,” said Chief of Police Jason Bruder. “Getting DUI drivers off the roadways is a key element in preventing injuries and death resulting from vehicle crashes. CUPD is proud to partner with MADD and participate in Saturation Saturday alongside law enforcement agencies throughout the state and the country.”
CUPD was awarded the 2025 Luther Reynolds DUI Enforcement Hero Agency of the Year Award by MADD South Carolina in April 2026. The recognition is awarded annually to an agency that demonstrates a strong commitment to reducing impaired driving through enforcement, education and prevention efforts.
Saturation Saturday will kick off statewide with a virtual roll call briefing where participating agencies, MADD, and a victim/survivor of an impaired-driving crash will gather online to highlight the importance of intensifying impaired-driving enforcement during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.
