The Clemson University Fire & EMS Department (CUFD) advises the University community to check their Anker power banks and stop using any of the recalled devices, as these devices pose a risk of fire and serious injury.

On June 12, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warned consumers to immediately stop using Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks with model number A1263. Additionally, Anker has issued a voluntary global recall of the following products:

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled power banks and contact Anker Innovations for instructions on receiving a free replacement power bank. Visit https://www.anker.com/product-recalls to check your device’s serial number and determine whether it is included in the recall.

Anker has received 19 reports of fires and explosions related to the A1263 model and 28 reports of incidents of the batteries overheating, exploding and the power bank catching on fire related to the October 2024 recall. This includes two injuries, which included first and second degree burns to the consumer’s hands, two reports of minor burn injuries not requiring medical attention and 11 reports of property damage totaling over $60,700.

If your device is determined to be included in the recall, it should be properly disposed of at a certified facility that accepts recalled lithium-ion batteries. Do not dispose of recalled lithium-ion battery devices in the trash, in the general recycling stream (e.g., curbside recycling bins) or in used battery recycling boxes.
