The Clemson Health Clinic at Orangeburg joins Clemson Rural Health’s network of hub clinics in South Carolina aiming to alleviate health disparities and improve health outcomes in rural and underserved communities. The third of its kind, the newest Clemson Health Clinic will support Clemson University’s land grant vision by giving back to the community through its partnerships with local health care providers and innovative approach to health care delivery.

Julio Hernandez, Clemson’s assistant to the president for community outreach and engagement, explains, “through our continued commitment to positively impacting and transforming the lives of people in South Carolina and beyond, we are fulfilling our land-grant mission and University values. Service builds community. And through actively engaging with our communities, we are able to address critical needs such as the opening of a primary health clinic in Orangeburg that will make a significant difference and will serve the citizens of our state for many years to come.”

The clinic, located at 1181 Hutto Street in Orangeburg, will primarily serve residents of Orangeburg, Bamberg, Barnwell and Calhoun Counties with in-person appointments, telehealth, remote patient monitoring, two mobile health units for outreach into rural counties, and a highly qualified, multidisciplinary team. Led by nurse practitioner, Donna Atkinson, a prominent certified diabetes care and education specialist in the region, the clinic will heavily focus on chronic disease prevention and management.

“We are committed to work alongside the Orangeburg community as we make strides toward our mission to reduce the premature death rate, avoid preventable hospitalizations and improve overall quality of life in our most vulnerable communities,” said Ron Gimbel, Ph.D., Clemson professor and director of Clemson Rural Health.

The Clemson Health Clinic at Orangeburg is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 803-516-4227.
