Clemson Rural Health’s Sullivan Center to offer free flu shots for insured employees in October

The Joseph F. Sullivan Center will be offering flu shots for faculty and staff at a convenient drive-through location on Fridays in October.

The Sullivan Center will offer flu shots from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 in the C-3 parking lot west of Memorial Stadium between Perimeter and Centennial roads. (See map)

Clemson employees and dependents on the State Health Plan can receive flu shots at no cost. For those who are uninsured or have a different type of insurance, the flu shot cost is $40 and can be paid by cash, credit card, or check to the Sullivan Center.

Faculty, staff and dependents must make an appointment and submit registration forms before going to the drive-through clinic.

  • Employees who have visited the Sullivan Center since July 1, 2021, may call 864-656-3076 to make an appointment.
  • Those who have not must submit the registration forms – posted online – by dropping them off or faxing them to 864-656-1123. Sullivan Center staff will call you to confirm receipt of these forms and schedule your flu shot appointment.
  • If you do not receive a call, reach out to 864-656-3076 to confirm receipt and schedule your appointment date and time.
  • Those who do not submit registration forms before the date of their appointment will experience longer wait times while the information loads into the system before receiving their flu shot.

Health experts always recommend getting a flu shot, according to Caitlin Kickham, associate director of clinical operations for Clemson Rural Health. This year, the Sullivan Center and the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences, which houses Clemson Rural Health and the center, are stressing its importance even more in the face of COVID-19.

“COVID-19 is still impacting our communities, so we recommend doing everything we can not to overwhelm health care systems,” Kickham said. “The flu vaccine keeps many people out of the hospital, so we want to do our part to make as much space as possible for those who contract COVID-19.”

The flu vaccine protects against several strains of influenza, reduces severity and length in those who get the flu, and protects those individuals around a person who might not be able to get a flu shot.
