The Design and the Built Environment (DBE) Ph.D. Program at Clemson University’s School of Architecture is proud to announce their upcoming event, “Dia-logue: Theory & Practice, A Two-Way Bridge Symposium,” taking place on April 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (ET).
The symposium aims to bridge the growing divide between research and professional practice. Particularly in the fields of Architecture & Health, Building Technology, History & Theory and Landscape Architecture. The event will bring together graduate students, faculty and industry professionals to explore how academic knowledge can directly inform and enhance practical application.
“We read dialogue as the combination of dia (divide) and logos (common or intelligible),” explained Ufuk Ersoy, a co-director of the DBE program. “Accordingly, the Dia-logue Symposium seeks to create a generative space where diverse viewpoints can meet and benefit from the creative tension that emerges when different intellectual traditions and methodologies encounter one another.”
Featured speakers include:
- Rebecca Popowsky, Wilks Family Director, University of Pennsylvania and Research Associate, OLIN
- Peggy Deamer, Professor Emerita, Yale University
- Ajla Akšamija, Professor and Distinguished Chair for Resilient Places, University of Utah
- Deborah Wingler, Global Practice Director of Applied Research and Partner, HKS
The symposium will be held both in-person in Lee 2-301 on Clemson’s campus and online via Zoom. In-person attendees will enjoy complimentary breakfast and lunch. Online participants will receive a Zoom registration link after completing a brief survey.
