One of the benefits of a cloud-based system like Workday is the easy access to regular upgrades that improve the system and experience for faculty and staff.
This continuous improvement approach allows Clemson to improve the system year-round, instead of once a year in the form of a major software update.
While Clemson program leaders will make changes to the system as needed throughout the year, Workday provides broader system updates twice a year through bi-annual releases.
What is a Workday release?
Workday uses customer feedback, advances in technology, and system data to inform changes to the system twice a year (March and September).
Scheduled every six months, these releases can include new functionality, enhancements to existing processes, user-interface changes, and technical or security updates.
When these releases occur, Clemson is required to implement some changes. Others can be evaluated by the Clemson team to determine if they best fit the needs of Clemson’s operations.
How will Clemson approach releases?
When Workday shares items included in upcoming releases, the Workday at Clemson team will review all items, test them, and determine how they will impact the University.
For future releases, the Workday at Clemson team will also engage with campus partners to determine how system changes may impact business processes across the University.
Once the changes have been thoroughly vetted, they’ll be applied during the scheduled release window.
What is the impact to faculty and staff?
In some cases, faculty and staff may see little to no noticeable impact from Workday releases.
In other instances, there may be larger changes that will require updates to training materials and communication to specific University partners.
Impacts to faculty and staff will vary depending on the changes provided by Workday.
Upcoming release scheduled for September 19
Clemson’s first release is scheduled for Saturday, September 19. Workday will be temporarily unavailable from 2 to 5 a.m. while updates are applied.
For the first release since Workday’s launch at Clemson, the Workday team has prioritized making only the absolutely necessary changes, as Clemson faculty and staff are still learning the new system.
This update mainly includes behind the scenes enhancements , though faculty and staff may notice small changes to the user experience.
