University spring awards nominations now open

Faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate deserving individuals for six prestigious awards that recognize students, faculty, staff and non-students for exemplary academic performance, leadership and service to Clemson University and the broader community.

Submission guidelines have changed. Access information about the nomination process.

Nomination submission deadlines:

  • January 21 – Nomination portal opens
  • February 9 – Nominations close
  • February 16 – Student applications close
  • February 28 – Recommendations close

Student awards
Norris Medal: The Norris Medal is considered the most prestigious award and is given to the best all-around graduating senior.

Matt Locke Award: Presented to one student for outstanding leadership with regard to service and devotion to humankind and Clemson University.

Frank A. Burtner Scholarship: Presented to rising juniors and seniors at Clemson University who display exemplary leadership qualities and an outstanding academic record.

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Student Award: Presented to two seniors for outstanding service to Clemson University and the extended Clemson community.

Non-student awards
Frank A. Burtner Award for Excellence in Advising: Awarded to a faculty or staff member who excels in developing students in the areas of leadership, devotion to duty and service while serving as an advisor to students (academic or non-academic) or student organizations.

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Non-Student Award: Given in recognition of the recipient’s influence for good, excellence in maintaining high ideals of living, and service before self.
