The College of Architecture, Arts and Construction (CAAC) proudly celebrates the recent recognition of two of its distinguished alumni, Austin Teague Ferguson and James Timothy Hance, by the Clemson Alumni Association for their professional achievements, leadership and commitment to the Clemson community.

Austin Teague Ferguson, a 2015 and 2017 graduate of Clemson’s School of Architecture, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Roaring10 Award. Presented annually by the Clemson Young Alumni Council, the Roaring10 honors graduates from the past decade who exemplify leadership in their profession and community, uphold the University’s core values, and inspire the next generation of Tigers. Ferguson, now an architect at heinlewischer in Berlin, Germany, has consistently demonstrated a deep passion for equitable, inclusive design and community-focused development. His work has included planning and coordinating vaccination centers in Berlin, collaborating on healthcare design projects across the United States and he previously received Healthcare Design magazine’s Rising Star award in 2019.

Ferguson regularly participates in presentations and discussions with current School of Architecture students. He is a frequent guest critic for the Architecture + Health program, where he provides feedback on students’ work as they prepare their projects for final reviews. He actively works to connect Clemson architecture students and recent graduates with internships and career opportunities.

James “Tim” Timothy Hance, Sr., a 1984 graduate of the School of Architecture and current chair of the University’s Board of Visitors, has been honored with the 2025 Distinguished Service Award. This award is the highest honor granted by the Clemson Alumni Association. It is only presented to former students who have devoted their lives to professionalism and public service and have demonstrated a lifelong dedication to Clemson University. Hance is the founder and president of J. Timothy Hance, Architect, P.A., a Columbia-based architecture firm known for its thoughtful and impactful work across South Carolina.

A steadfast supporter of Clemson University and a leader in the design profession, Hance exemplifies the values of the College through his mentorship, service, and design excellence over more than three decades. Throughout his career, he has been appointed to South Carolina’s Building Codes Council by two separate South Carolina governors, was a member of the City of Columbia’s Property Maintenance Board of Appeals, held several leadership positions for the Washington Street United Methodist Church, works closely with the University’s Office of Governmental Affairs, regularly travels to Washington, D.C., to interact with congressional members on Clemson’s behalf, has been an active member of the Clemson Architectural Foundation since 2011, served on the School of Architecture’s Architectural Professional Review Committee, been a strong proponent of hiring Clemson architectural students as summer interns and make significant contributions to programs and activities across the University.

“These honors reflect the caliber of leaders and changemakers who graduate from the College of Architecture, Arts and Construction,” said CAAC Dean Ece Erdogmus. “We are incredibly proud of Austin and Tim for their achievements and for the ways they continue to represent Clemson through innovation, service and integrity.”

The College extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ferguson and Hance and celebrates their continued impact on the built environment and the Clemson community.
