“Tigers in the Archive” podcast to explore Clemson’s archives

Share:

A new podcast aims to share the stories of Clemson University’s history and culture through an exploration of items in the University’s Special Collections and Archives.

“Tigers in the Archive” hosted by Tara Wood, the instruction and outreach archivist for Special Collections and Archives and lecturer in the Department of History and Geography, hopes to use the podcast to showcase items in Special Collections and Archives. The podcast will highlight the stories that these collections tell by interviewing those who have used or donated items.

“Special Collections and Archives houses a lot of University history, but it is also home to historical collections from the local area, the state and beyond,” Wood said. “We want to share that history in the podcast, as well as promote the work of students, scholars and faculty, and the legacies of Clemson alumni.

This 16th-century Islamic sword is one of the items featured in the first “Tigers in the Archive” episode.

The first episode of the podcast is a conversation between Wood and Nancy Spitler, the recently retired editor of Clemson World magazine, as they looked at 10 unusual items in the archives. Spitler highlighted the items in her story in the Fall 2023 issue of Clemson World titled “History in Your Hands.”

“When Nancy reached out to do her story, I thought this was a great opportunity to launch the podcast at the same time and to share with a larger audience what makes the archives at Clemson special,” said Wood.

Wood is looking for people who have a story to tell with Clemson archival materials —faculty, staff, scholars, students or community resident. Those interested can contact Wood at tswood2@clemson.edu

“Tigers in the Archive” is available now on Apple PodcastsSpotifyGoogle Podcasts and other podcasting platforms.
