Principal lecturer Amy Pope and lecturers Liz Laxton and Chelsea McKelvey recently collaborated with Clemson Online on dynamic course offerings through a rigorous certification process with Quality Matters (QM) – a global leader in effective online and hybrid course design. This commitment to the highest quality teaching standards supports Clemson Elevate’s strategic goal to deliver the No. 1 student experience where every student thrives.

The QM Certification Mark is the internationally recognized symbol of online and blended course design quality and represents the University’s ongoing commitment to creating learning environments that provide learners with a clear pathway to success. Since 2006, more than 11,000 courses have been QM-certified worldwide.

From learning outcomes to accessibility, each worked with a team of certified reviewers at Clemson Online to identify improvements and enhance the course while solving instructional problems.

According to McKelvey, the process improved her teaching, particularly in making Canvas more accessible and user-friendly for students. Additionally, Laxton said working with the Clemson Online team was a delight and very informative when preparing her course to ensure student success in the classroom.

Supported by the provost, QM reviews are now eligible for submission as evidence of teaching effectiveness in the Faculty Success annual reporting system.

McKelvey’s course, ENGL 2130, British Literature, was reviewed by Digital Learning Strategist James Butler and Digital Learning Manager Sharyn Emery. Pope’s course, PHYS 2070, General Physics I, was reviewed by Emery and Associate Director of Online Development Lori Kinley.

The feedback that was provided by the internal reviewers on my course was exceptional and very easy to implement within my course frame.”

Liz Laxton. Her course, MGT 2010, Principles of Management, was reviewed by Kinley and Digital Learning Strategist Leslie Fuller.

Laxton, McKelvey and Pope join other faculty members, including Department Chair of the College of Business Craig Wallace and Senior Lecturer Thea Hagan, as well as Extension Agent Amy Dabbs, who have also completed the QM certification process in partnership with Clemson Online.

Instructors interested in a Quality Matters review for their course or wanting to learn more about quality online instruction may self-enroll in the  QM at Clemson Canvas website or contact  Clemson Online.
