The Pearce Center for Professional Communication has announced that Clemson University will host the 16th International Writing Across the Curriculum (IWAC) conference, a hybrid event, scheduled for June 14-17, 2023. The conference will include keynote speakers, panels, and roundtables addressing writing theory, practice, and pedagogy in all its forms—digital, visual, multimodal, and plain language. Clemson faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend or present. Registration for the conference is open until May 15, 2023, and Clemson faculty, staff and students can use the promo code 2023CU10 to receive 10 percent off their registration.

Associate Professor of English Cameron Bushnell, director of the Pearce Center for Professional Communication.

“In its simplest form, Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) recognizes and supports the use of writing in any and every way and in every and any course offered at a learning institution,” explained Associate Professor Cameron Bushnell, director of the Pearce Center for Professional Communication and this year’s conference director.

The conference is expected to draw over 350 participants to Clemson from across the country and around the globe, Bushnell said.

“Interesting to Clemson faculty will be the large number of writing professionals who focus on writing in the disciplines,” she said. “Clemson faculty involved in efforts on our campus to organize writing programs for staff and community, to offer STEM communication courses, to arrange mentorship programs for new professionals in healthcare, to name just a few, could have discussion topics suitable for this conference.”

The full conference schedule has been published on the conference website and includes speakers from universities across the globe. Conference presentation topics will include the role of WAC in addressing social justice/social justice literacy, WAC scholars as agents of change, WAC as a transnational movement and WAC programming.
