Margaret Price, associate professor of English at Ohio State University specializing in disability studies and rhetoric/composition, will provide the keynote address for Clemson University’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) events on Monday, October 21, from 3-4 p.m. at the Hendrix Student Center Almeda R. Jacks Ballroom A. A virtual option will also be available.
Price will discuss mental health in academia, its access, failure and accountability, and other highlights from her new book Crip Spacetime.

Book club
A book club discussing Margaret Price’s Crip Spacetime will meet weekly beginning Wednesday, September 18, ahead of Price’s keynote address. Faculty and graduate students will lead discussions of the book each Wednesday at noon via Zoom and free copies of the book are available for the first 12 people to sign up. Book club registration is available via Google Forms.
NDEAM events
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) 2024 is an annual campaign in October that aims to raise awareness about employment issues faced by individuals with disabilities while celebrating their diverse contributions to the American workforce.
In addition to Margaret Price’s talk, one-hour “Let’s Break to Educate” sessions will cover a wide range of disability and accessibility topics. NDEAM events this month include:
- October 9, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Accessible Design with Canva, Adobe Express, and Friends
- October 10, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Disability Studies: An Introduction
- October 16, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Music is more than a major: A student’s journey and watch a performance
- October 17, 2-3 p.m.: An introduction to Aira, CU’s visual interpreter service, its functionality and live demo
- October 21, 3-4 p.m.: Mental Health in Academia: Its Access, Failures, and Accountability By Dr. Margaret Price
- October 23, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: The Career Center and what’s in it for YOU?
- October 24, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Learning How to Effectively Communicate With Persons Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- October 28, 2:30-3:30 p.m.: Invisible and Dynamic Disabilities: How to Empower Through Awareness and Innovation
