Clemson University will host New Student Convocation two days prior to the start of Fall classes on Monday, Aug. 17. The annual event, which serves as an introductory welcome to the new academic year, will take place from 9:30-10:15 a.m. in Littlejohn Coliseum. The event is open to all new students, including undergraduates, transfers and graduate students.
“Convocation is the first step in a student’s Clemson journey,” says Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Learning, Sean Brittain. “Our goal is to clearly establish expectations inside and outside of the classroom, highlight Clemson’s strong culture and share success strategies from different campus leaders.”
Establishing those expectations and sharing success strategies includes the new graduate student population as well.
“Graduate students are an important part of the Clemson Family, and we want them to be able to take full advantage of all Clemson has to offer,” says Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School, John Lopes. “We’re excited our new students will be part of Convocation.”
As a bonus, following Convocation, students hear from varsity athletics coaches, receive free T-shirts and other giveaways — all while learning what it means to be a Clemson Tiger. The busy morning concludes with the President’s Cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the East lawn of Littlejohn.
