Danielle Howard, DVM, MS, is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences in Clemson University’s Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine. A Charleston, South Carolina native, Dr. Howard is proud to return home to help establish South Carolina’s first College of Veterinary Medicine—an opportunity she describes as both professionally and personally meaningful.
“As a South Carolina native, I was thrilled about the opportunity to come home and be part of building the state’s first College of Veterinary Medicine,” she said. “Clemson has a reputation for excellence in everything it does, and I knew that same level of care, innovation, and integrity would carry into the PCVM. Being part of something so meaningful for the state and the profession is incredibly exciting.”
Dr. Howard earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Master of Science degrees from Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a rotating internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center. She later joined the faculty at Long Island University’s Lewyt College of Veterinary Medicine, where she taught Veterinary Skills and Principles of Surgery and mentored students throughout their clinical year. Her professional focus is clinical skills education and supporting students as they build confidence and independence in preparation for clinical training.
In her role at Clemson, Dr. Howard is particularly motivated by collaboration and student development. “I’m fortunate to work alongside an amazing group of faculty and staff,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them to provide students with an exceptional learning experience. Supporting students as they grow in confidence, discover their interests, and find their place in veterinary medicine is what makes this work so rewarding for me.”
As the college continues to grow, Dr. Howard is excited to help build its culture. “Being part of a new program offers a unique opportunity to help shape the culture,” she said. “I hope to make a meaningful impact by supporting student success and helping foster a collaborative, supportive environment that values mentorship, innovation and service.”
Outside of the classroom, Dr. Howard enjoys traveling, live music, horseback riding, hiking, and spending time with friends and family. She also shares her life with two dogs, Silas and Miss Lady. “Miss Lady is pure chaos, and Silas is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet,” she said. “He was actually a research dog when I was a vet student, so you can probably tell who’s who from the photos.”
