Colin Thompson serves as the Lead Technical Consultant for the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine, where he helps faculty, staff and (soon) students use technology effectively to support teaching, research and daily operations.

“I’m excited about the chance to contribute to something bigger than myself, helping create the systems and provide the tools that will empower future veterinarians to succeed,” said Thompson. “Knowing that my role can indirectly support better care and stronger communities is what I’m really looking forward to.”

With nearly a decade of IT experience, Thompson specializes in system administration, cloud platforms, network management, audiovisual solutions and end-user training, often bridging the gap between technical teams and nontechnical users. Thompson is looking forward to being a part of a larger mission that will impact people and animals across South Carolina and beyond.

“I was drawn to Clemson University and the college of veterinary medicine because it offers the chance to apply technology in ways that directly support teaching, research and veterinary care across the state,” said Thompson. “Helping to build systems that empower faculty, staff and students to do their best work is rewarding, especially knowing those efforts ultimately improve both animal and human health.”

Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems from Florida Gulf Coast University. He combines this academic foundation with hands-on experience leading IT projects, troubleshooting complex technical issues and creating user-friendly solutions tailored to unique needs. He’s excited to be a resource to help the college continue to grow and evolve.

“I see my role as helping the college grow by making technology reliable and accessible for everyone who depends on it, faculty, staff and students alike. That means supporting day-to-day needs while also putting systems in place that will serve us well as we expand. At the same time, I want to help shape long-term solutions that support teaching, research and service in ways that benefit both the college and the communities we serve across South Carolina.”

Outside of work, Thompson enjoys watching hockey, playing video games, hiking, kayaking and spending quality time with his fiancée, Jamie, their pug, Gimli, and their cat, Slate.

“I am a huge hockey fan. My favorite teams are the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL and the Florida Everblades in the ECHL. I also love building computers, playing video games, hiking, kayaking and working on my car. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family!”
