Mark Phillips of Charleston named to Clemson University Foundation board

CLEMSON — Mark Phillips of Charleston has been named to a four-year term on the Clemson University Foundation board of directors.

Phillips is a partner and trial attorney with Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough LLP. He has practiced law for more than 33 years, with an emphasis on product-liability cases and has been named one of America’s Leading Lawyers for Business multiple times.

Phillips received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the South in 1983 and went on to earn a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina in 1986.

He is a member of the board of the Clemson University Foundation and of the Richard W. Simpson Society and the Anna Calhoun Clemson Society. He and his family are IPTAY Heisman donors.

An active member of his community, Phillips has held leadership positions with numerous organizations, including the University of the South’s board of trustees, the Development Board of the Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community and as a trustee of The Society for the Relief of the Widows and Orphans of the Clergy of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the State of South Carolina.

Professionally, Phillips is state chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers and past president of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an advocate-level member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference.
