LeMahieu Named Interim Associate Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies

Michael LeMahieu has been appointed as Interim Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities (CAAH) at Clemson University. LeMahieu, an Associate Professor of English, will begin his new role on November 1.

“Mike brings energy and ideas to this position,” said Nicholas Vazsonyi, Dean of CAAH. “He has a wealth of experience working with students both in our College and in the Honors College, and he is passionate about expanding our outreach work to connect with underrepresented K-12 students in the Upstate.”

“I am excited to take on this new challenge and grateful for the opportunity to encourage and promote the inspiring work our students, staff, and faculty engage in every day,” LeMahieu said.

LeMahieu has distinguished himself in both academic and administrative roles during his career at Clemson, where he began as an adjunct lecturer in 2004. In the English Department, he has served as Associate Chair (2010-2011), Director of Undergraduate Studies (2006-2009), and Director of the Pearce Center for Professional Communication (2011-2016). He also served in the Honors College as Interim Director of Major Fellowships (2017-2018).

“The committee was impressed by Mike’s comprehensive knowledge of initiatives throughout the College and his passion for amplifying diverse voices,” said Associate Professor of English Brian McGrath, who chaired the search committee for the position.

LeMahieu’s academic accomplishments include fellowships with the American Council of Learned Societies Fellowship (2018-2019) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (2019-2020). His publications include Fictions of Fact and Value: The Erasure of Logical Positivism in American Literature, 1945-1975 (Oxford University Press, 2013), and he was co-editor of Wittgenstein and Modernism (University of Chicago Press, 2017). He also serves as the editor of the journal Contemporary Literature.

At Clemson University, LeMahieu has earned multiple awards for his pedagogy and research. He earned the National Scholars Program Award of Distinction four times, and he is a two-time winner of both the Harriet R. Holman Faculty Recognition Award and the Board of Trustees Award for Faculty Excellence. His other accolades include the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research (CAAH); the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching (CAAH); the Class of 1940 Douglas W. Bradbury Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Honors College; and the University Research, Scholarship, and Artistic Achievement Award (URSAA, Inaugural Class).
