Joshua T. Margolis receives scholarship from INFORMS

Industrial engineering Ph.D. candidate Joshua T. Margolis is receiving the Seth Bonder Scholarship for Applied Operations Research in Military and Security Applications.

The scholarship seeks “to promote the development and application of process modeling and operations research (OR) analyses to defense-related applications, including military and national security issues.”

It is a very prestigious award in the OR community.

The scholarship comes from INFORMS, an acronym for the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. Margolis will be presented with his award during a virtual ceremony on Nov. 11.

He is pursuing his Ph.D. under Scott Mason, Fluor Endowed Chair in Supply Chain Optimization & Logistics, and Assistant Professor Yongjia Song.

Margolis’ research is in vehicle routing problems for homeland security applications, with a focus on target surveillance. He is on track to graduate in August.

Margolis, who is from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, received his Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics and physics from Dickinson College and a Master of Science degree in industrial and systems engineering from Lehigh University.
