Harriet and Jerry Dempsey Research Conference scheduled for Feb. 22

A conference in Greenville on Feb. 22 will provide a behind-the-scenes look into the research that could soon transform health care, ranging from new ways to treat disease to better ways of working with patients.

The 3rd Annual Harriet and Jerry Dempsey Research Conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be in the auditorium of the Clemson University Nursing Building at 605 Grove Road.

Participants are asked to RSVP with Kevin Taaffe at taaffe@clemson.edu, especially if they are planning to have lunch at the conference. Drop-ins are also welcome.

Organizers expect about 100-150 participants, a mixture of faculty members, students, healthcare practitioners and administrators from Clemson University and Greenville Health System. Those in town for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine Southeastern Regional Conference are also welcome.

It’s among the latest efforts to expand the collaboration between Clemson University and Greenville Health System.

The agenda includes:

  • Tom Borg of the Medical University of South Carolina; Extracellular matrix in heart development regeneration; 8:45-9:30 a.m.
  • Arash Kheradvar of the University of California, Irvine; Mitochondrial Transplantation for Cardiac Diseases; 9:30-10:15 a.m.
  • Brian Denton of the University of Michigan; Data Analytics for Optimal Detection of Metastatic Prostate Cancer; 10:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Raj Ratwani of MedStar Health; Understanding Physician Stress, Workflow, and Task Interruptions; 12:30-1:15 p.m.

The conference is organized by Taaffe, the Harriet and Jerry Dempsey Professor of Industrial Engineering, and Dan Simionescu, the Harriet and Jerry Dempsey Professor of Bioengineering.
