Transform your best recipe into a business with Clemson Cooperative Extension’s Food Safety Workshop for Food Entrepreneurs.
This 8-week online program, followed by a one-day in-person session, will guide you through the essentials of producing and selling food in South Carolina.
What to expect:
- Learn to produce and sell food safely.
- Meet and network with food safety professionals, regulators and fellow food entrepreneurs.
Participants will receive information related to business startup and continuing education opportunities to help make their products successful. They also will learn about governmental, professional and educational resources to assist in the success of their businesses.
Topics include:
- State and federal regulations
- Approved facilities
- Food safety planning
- Product testing
- Nutrition labeling
- Food Processing 101
- Documents and record keeping
- Traceability and recall
- Resources for business
The in-person meeting includes lecture summaries, question-and-answer sessions with food safety experts, and a networking session where participants can showcase their products.

- Classes online only, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 to Nov. 11.
- In-person meeting to be held Nov. 13 in Columbia, South Carolina. Exact location to be announced.

Completion of the online study and attendance at the Columbia meeting are required to receive a certificate of completion.
Upon completion, participants will understand the food safety and regulation requirements for producing and selling food in South Carolina.
