Fraternity and Sorority Life groups enjoy record-breaking fall

CLEMSON — Students affiliated with the 46 organizations recognized through the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life excelled in the classroom during the 2019 fall semester, according to an annual community report.

In all, Greek-affiliated students combined to average a fall semester record 3.336 overall GPA among its 4,883 members. In addition, fall GPA records were achieved by members of the College Panhellenic Council (3.482), Interfraternity Council (3.086) and National Panhellenic Council (3.057).

Students belonging to all four governing councils surpassed a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the second consecutive fall semester. Seventy-seven percent of students affiliated with a Greek organization recorded a 3.0 or higher, while 20 percent achieved a perfect 4.0. For the first time on record, all new members of the Interfraternity Council (403 students total) exceeded a 3.0 cumulative GPA (3.031).

“I am so proud of the work that our students and staff are doing to make sure the Fraternity and Sorority Life experience at Clemson is one we can be proud of,” said Gary Wiser, director of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Six sororities recorded at least a 3.5 GPA for the semester, led by Alpha Delta Pi’s 279 members (3.56). Other sororities exceeding the 3.5 mark were Kappa Delta (3.542), Chi Omega (3.515), Zeta Tau Alpha (3.51), Sigma Kappa (3.504) and Pi Beta Phi (3.501). Other leading organizations in terms of GPA were Sigma Iota Alpha from the Multicultural Greek Council (3.667), Kappa Alpha Psi from the National Panhellenic Council (3.369) and Beta Upsilon Chi from the Interfraternity Council (3.283).
