Fraternity and Sorority Life groups earned high marks in 2018 fall semester

CLEMSON — Students affiliated with the 46 organizations recognized through the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life excelled inside and outside of the classroom during the 2018 fall semester, according to an annual community report.

“I am very pleased to see the hard work done by our students result in tremendous success in and out of the classroom,” said Gary Wiser, director of Fraternity and Sorority Life. “All four of our governing councils compiled overall GPAs above a 3.0 for the first time in several years, and the National Panhellenic Council (NPHC) GPA is our highest on record.”

In all, Greek-affiliated students combined to average a 3.317 overall GPA among its 4,569 members. The students combined for 34,537 hours of community service and raised over $273,000 toward philanthropic endeavors. In addition, only four violations were committed according to the Office of Community and Ethical Standards.

The highest GPA for the fall semester was 3.594, recorded by Clemson’s largest chapter, Alpha Delta Pi. In terms of community service, Delta Zeta led the way with 5,276 hours performed, an average of 22.8 per member. Sigma Kappa actually had a higher average per member and totaled 5,270 hours. Zeta Tau Alpha led the way philanthropically, raising more than $70,000 for breast cancer education and awareness through events such as “Big Man on Campus” and “Think Pink” week.
