The Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (PCVM) is moving steadily toward welcoming its first class in fall 2026, pending accreditation. While details continue to take shape, the college is committed to preparing future veterinarians to serve South Carolina and beyond. Below are important updates for prospective students, families and stakeholders as we prepare for this historic launch.
Accreditation and application timeline
The college is awaiting accreditation approval from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The PCVM will notify students and stakeholders as soon as the Letter of Reasonable Assurance is received and the application window is open.
For the inaugural Class of 2030, the PCVM will use an independent application that will be posted on the homepage, student page and LinkTree. Beginning in January 2026, applicants for admission in 2027 (Class of 2031) will apply through the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS).
Admissions priorities
The program will prioritize South Carolina residents, with 60 of the 80 inaugural seats reserved for in-state students. Residency is determined by permanent address, not current college or university enrollment. Twenty seats will be available to at-large students from outside the state.
While South Carolina has a particular need for large animal veterinarians, the PCVM will admit students interested in all areas of veterinary medicine.
Facilities and student experience
Construction of the new veterinary medicine campus remains on track. Facilities are scheduled to be ready to welcome students in fall 2026, pending accreditation approval.
Clemson hopes to provide partial scholarship support for the inaugural class.*

Admissions process
Applicants meeting minimum requirements will receive an asynchronous interview link with instructions for recording and submitting their responses.
