CLEMSON – A Clemson University workshop on Data Science, Analytics and Decision Making was held Jan. 28 in the Watt Center Auditorium.

Clemson faculty from the College of Science, College of Business and College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences presented on the myriad capabilities data science provides.

The presentations focused on the kinds of problems Clemson researchers can solve using their brand of statistics, algorithms, analytics, optimization, machine learning and more.

Cole Smith, associate provost for academic initiatives, moderated the event. The speakers were Akshay Gupte, Chris McMahan and Lance Ouyang of the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences; Amin Khademi and Yongjia Song of Industrial Engineering; Brian Dean, Ilya Safro and Aishwarya Srivastava of the School of Computing; and Gabriela Sava of Management.

“We have recently witnessed an impressive level of research in the data science field coming from Clemson, ranging from data analysis and curation, to using that data to make predictions of complex systems, and leveraging data-based models to implement decisions that improve industry operations,” Smith said. “This workshop is a key step toward launching future collaborations and opening the conversation on how to give students the best education possible in this field.”
