Clemson’s Rutland Institute for Ethics, National Beta partner to develop high school Beta ethics curriculum

The Rutland Institute for Ethics at Clemson University has partnered with National Beta to develop an innovative ethics curriculum that will launch in January 2025. This initiative will provide high school Beta members nationwide with a structured framework for understanding and navigating ethical dilemmas with confidence and integrity.

The curriculum, created by ethics experts at the Rutland Institute, will teach students how to analyze real-world challenges using the STAR Decision-Making Model—a Clemson faculty-endorsed methodical approach, empowering them to make thoughtful, responsible decisions.

The integration of this model, reaching no less than 3,000 high schools throughout the nation, promotes Clemson’s dedication to ethical decision-making and ethical leadership to a younger cohort of students to prepare them for the life decisions they will be called upon to make. We look forward to launching this curriculum in January and encouraging students to take part in shaping a more ethical and thoughtful future.”

High school Beta members are invited to participate in Clemson’s Ina B. Durham Annual High School Ethics Case Competition in March 2025. The competition challenges students to apply their knowledge to complex ethical scenarios, offering a hands-on experience that complements the new curriculum, as part of this collaboration.
