Clemson received silver designation from ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge for a voting rate of 30-39% among students in the 2022 midterm elections.

Clemson was recognized alongside more than 500 campuses utilizing data from the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE) from Tufts University, which found that colleges and universities had the second-highest voter turnout among students in a midterm election on record.

“We are thrilled to see that our efforts to boost civic responsibility in our Clemson student population have been successful,” says Kate Radford, executive director of the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement. “Having our students engage in the democratic process is an essential role of higher education and we are committed to continuing to reduce barriers to voting and best position our students to advocate for the future they’d like to see for our nation. A non-partisan approach that provides students with the tools they need to participate in the political process will continue to be our priority as we develop voter registration, turnout and education initiatives in this next election cycle.”

More than 1,000 institutions enrolling more than 10 million students participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which supports colleges and universities in achieving excellence in nonpartisan student voter engagement.

“Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall,” says Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the Campus Democracy Challenge. “ALL IN is proud to celebrate and honor top-performing campuses like Clemson, who demonstrate nonpartisan student voter engagement is possible and effective.”

Clemson has earned accolades for its student voter engagement in previous years. Most recently, Clemson was named a Voter Friendly Campus in 2023-24 by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, or NASPA.
