Students,

The first full week of classes is a good time to begin finding your rhythm. Your days will fill quickly with classes, studying, organizations, activities, work and time with friends. As you settle into those routines, I hope you will make room for something just as important: paying attention to what you personally need, and knowing when to reach out.

I know Clemson from several perspectives. I am a three-time Clemson graduate and have spent more than 20 years working at my alma mater. One thing I have learned is that no two Clemson experiences look exactly alike. That is part of what makes your time here your own. Try something new. Meet people outside your usual circle. Ask questions. Give yourself permission to adjust when a routine, class or commitment is not working the way you expected.

The Dean of Students Office is here for those moments. Our team supports undergraduate, graduate and professional students as they navigate Clemson, and we want you to know you do not have to figure everything out by yourself. Sometimes support starts with a conversation — someone listening, helping you sort through what you need and connecting you with the right people or resources.

One way we do that is through the CARE Network. Students can be referred for many reasons, including academics, grief, homesickness, financial challenges or health-related needs. You do not need to wait until a concern feels overwhelming to reach out. Asking for help early can be an important part of moving forward.

Student advocacy is deeply important to me, and so is hearing directly from students. If you need a place to connect, I hope you will consider making an appointment to visit me or our team in the Hendrix Student Center. Contact the Dean of Students Office or call 864-656-1350 to arrange a time to stop by.

I hope the 2026-27 academic year gives you opportunities to learn, build relationships and discover more about what being a Clemson Tiger means to you. Take care of yourself, look out for one another and know that we are here when you need us.

Kimberly Poole, Ph.D.
Associate Vice President and Dean of Students
