A testament to Clemson’s continued support of the military community, Clemson University has once again been named a 2024 Military Friendly Employer®. For the second year, Clemson received a gold designation – the second-highest award possible.
Awarded by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business, the designation highlights employers with high commitment, effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefits for the military community.
The award rates employers on aspects of the entire lifecycle of military employers, from recruitment and onboarding to policies and practices to support employees once they join an organization.
“I am proud to work with a team so committed to honoring Clemson’s rich military heritage,” said Ale Kennedy, chief human resources officer. “This award is a testament to the hard work of many dedicated individuals who create a welcoming and supportive culture for our military members, veterans and their families.”
More than 2,100 organizations compete annually for Military Friendly designations, with just 338 named Military Friendly Employers.
Clemson University prioritizes creating a welcoming environment for veterans and service members interested in joining the ranks as Clemson employees. The University facilitates a Veteran Preference program for qualifying veterans applying for full-time, regular positions at the University. It is also an approved location for the Department of Defense SkillBridge internship program.
“Being a staff member and a veteran, I have seen firsthand the efforts Clemson has made and continues to make to ensure Clemson is a fantastic place to work,” said Jimmy Mullinax, executive director of military affairs at Clemson. “I am so excited about the great strides made by various departments at Clemson to ensure that veteran employees are recruited, retained, and supported to achieve their life goals.”
In addition to prioritizing the Clemson Experience for veteran employees, Clemson University provides robust support to its students. In March 2024, Clemson earned a Top 10 designation as a Military Friendly School and Military Spouse Friendly School. Clemson improved on its silver designation from the prior two years and ascended to a No. 7 national ranking among Tier 1 research institutions.
Clemson University will be showcased in the 2024 Military Friendly Employers in the Winter issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and on MilitaryFriendly.com.
Clemson will honor the military community during its annual Military Appreciation Week from November 18 to 23.
