CBSHS recognizes scholarship in journal publications

The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences recently celebrated scholarship by faculty across the college by recognizing selected outstanding journal publications. College leadership recognized each faculty member responsible for the work with a plaque, which will be displayed outside of the dean’s office for the remainder of the semester.

Eric Muth, associate dean for research and graduate studies in the college, selected one faculty member per department to receive this recognition. Muth said the goal of this initiative is to recognize the breadth of research undertaken by faculty across all eight departments in the college.

“We wish to support research culture by publicly recognizing scholarship across the college,” Muth said. “When you take a look at the incredible work on display, it’s easy to see how our college works to create a better understanding of topics that affect individuals as well as society and culture at large.”

The outstanding journal publications selected for fall 2018 are as follows:

• “Economic threats or societal turmoil? Understanding preferences for authoritarian political systems” by Steven Miller, assistant professor in Clemson’s political science department.
• “Implementation of a training program for low-literacy promotoras in oral rehydration therapy” by Roxanne Amerson, associate professor in Clemson’s school of nursing.
• “Value orientations and heritage tourism management at Petra Archaeological Park, Jordan” by Principal Author Jeffrey Hallo, associate professor in Clemson’s parks, recreation and tourism management department.
• “A continuation of sport teams from an organizational perspective: predictors of athlete-coach leader-member exchange” by Gregory Cranmer, assistant professor in Clemson’s communication department.
• “Epidemiology of suicide attempts among youth transitioning to adulthood” by Principal Author Martie Thompson, professor in Clemson’s youth, family and community studies department.
• “Work experiences on MTURK: job satisfaction, turnover and information sharing” by Principal Author Cynthia Pury, professor in Clemson’s psychology department.
• “Religion and support for adoption by same-sex couple: the relative effects of religious tradition, practices and beliefs” by Principal Author Andrew Whitehead, assistant professor in Clemson’s sociology, anthropology and criminal justice department.
• “Gestational diabetes mellitus: its epidemiology and implication beyond pregnancy” by Principal Authors Liwei Chen and Rachel Mayo of Clemson’s public health sciences department.

Plaques will remain on display outside of the dean’s office until early- to mid-spring semester, when the next round of outstanding journal publications will be selected. One article per department will be selected each semester.
