The College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences recently honored staff and faculty for innovative teaching, student engagement, achievements in research and service and dedication to the college and students. They were recognized at the Faculty and Staff Awards ceremony May 3.
Staff who were awarded included:
- New Employee Award – Wendi Mattson, CBSHS Associate Dean’s Office
- Team Player Award –Rebecca Coffey-Moses, Department of Public Health Sciences and Nancy Watkins, CBSHS Financial and Human Resources Services
- Professional Staff Award for Exceptional Performance and Outstanding Service Award – Valerie Oonk, School of Nursing
Faculty and staff also received College Awards of Excellence. These honorees included:
- Award for Excellence for Innovation – Jean Ellen Zavertnik, School of Nursing
- Award for Excellence in Service and Outreach – Andrew Pyle, Department of Communication
- Award for Excellence in Interdisciplinary Collaboration – Martie Thompson, CBSHS faculty member, and Heidi Zinzow, Department of Psychology
- Award for Excellence in Academic Advising – Adam McFarlane, School of Nursing
- Award for Excellence in Student Engagement – Marjie Britz, Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice
- Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching – Brandon Turner, Department of Political Science, and Deborah Falta, Department of Public Health Sciences
- Award for Excellence in Global Engagement – Xiaobo Hu, Department of Political Science
- Award for Excellence in Research – Emerging Scholar – Greg Cranmer, Department of Communication
- Award for Excellence in Research – Senior Scholar – Catherine Mobley, Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice
- Award for Excellence in Faculty Mentoring – Robin Kowalski, Department of Psychology, and Wayne Freimund, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management
- Award for Excellence in Graduate Student Advising/Mentoring – Matt Brownlee, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management

The Clemson University College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences is focused on becoming a national and international leader in solving the problems faced by individuals, families, communities and societies. Established in July 2016, it aims to equip students and engage research and outreach to address health and wellness challenges, tackle human impacts on the environment, and build stronger communities by better understanding human, political and social behavior and the impact of an ever-connected world.
