Bruder sworn in as Chief of Police

Bruder officially begins his tenure leading CUPD

Jason Bruder was officially sworn in as Clemson University’s Chief of Police on his first day in office in a formal ceremony on Monday, January 5, 2026. Bruder, a 2002 graduate of Clemson, returns to his alma mater after 23 years with the Charleston Police Department.

“It is truly an honor to be selected for this leadership position,” Bruder said during the ceremony. “I am truly blessed to be back home and serve Clemson University. I am excited about what the future brings to this university and the Police Department. CUPD is known for its high standards, and I look forward to elevating the department to the next level. Go Tigers!”

Lindsey Simmons, Chief Judge of Clemson University Municipal Court, administered the oath of office for Chief Bruder:

“I, Jason Bruder, will support and comply with the Constitution of the United States of America, the Constitution and laws of the State of South Carolina, the rules and regulations of the Clemson University Police Department, and the law enforcement code of ethics. I will faithfully discharge my duties as a police officer to the best of my ability.”

Following the oath of office, Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations and Chief Financial Officer Rick Petillo presented Bruder with his badge.
