Air Force and Army ROTC commission seven Second Lieutenants in joint ceremony

Clemson University’s Air Force and Army ROTC units will hold a joint ceremony to commission seven Second Lieutenants at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. The ceremony will be in Tillman Auditorium. Four students will receive commissions into the U.S. Air Force. One student will receive a commission into the U.S. Space Force, and two students will receive commissions into the U.S. Army.

Following the commissioning ceremony, the newly appointed lieutenants will participate in a Silver Dollar Salute at Clemson University’s Military Heritage Plaza.  The ceremony marks the first salute received by the officer from an enlisted member. As a sign of mutual respect, the officer presents the enlisted member with a silver dollar.

The commissioning candidates for the December ceremony are:

Spencer W. Carlson, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, majoring in mechanical engineering

Andrew B. Fey, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, majoring in computer science

Joseph G. Gentry, of Columbia, South Carolina, majoring in mechanical engineering

Cooper M. Todt, of Bluffton, South Carolina, majoring in civil engineering

United States Space Force

David A. Burns, of Columbia, South Carolina, majoring in computer engineering

United States Army

Griffin A. Johnson, of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, majoring in accounting

Wilson A. Monroe, of Blythewood, South Carolina, majoring in financial management
